Care that meets you where you are.
Strategies rooted in biology, aligned with identity, and grounded in the realities of your life.
A tessera is the small tile at the heart of an ancient mosaic — a seemingly simple piece that only reveals its full meaning when placed in context with everything around it. In Roman culture, a tessera also served as a token of hospitality between two people — broken in two, each person kept half as proof of a relationship, pieces that only made sense together.
Both meanings capture something essential about how we practice medicine here.
Your health cannot be fully understood through isolated symptoms, diagnoses, or test results. It is shaped by your biology, your history, your environment, your relationships, and the life you are living. When we look at the pieces together, patterns emerge that no single piece could reveal alone.
And the relationship matters just as much. The tessera of hospitality was something held between two people, each half incomplete without the other. The care we build here only works in partnership: your knowledge of your own life and what matters to you meets our clinical expertise. Neither is sufficient alone.
That partnership is what makes this kind of care possible. Whether we're exploring difficult symptoms, optimizing long-term health, or navigating complex decisions, we'll make sense of your health together — bringing information into context, connecting patterns, and translating understanding into a clear, personalized plan.
You deserve care that helps you understand what's happening in your body and helps you feel more at home in it.
About me
Amanda Ray, MD
I’m a Yale-trained physician, dual-boarded in Internal Medicine and Hospice & Palliative Medicine, with additional training in integrative and systems-based approaches. I've been practicing medicine since 2017. I've held faculty appointments with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School. I currently hold a faculty appointment with Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
Before medicine, I studied literature and worked in the humanities. That background taught me to pay attention—to stories, context, complexity, and nuance—and it continues to shape how I care for patients today. I bring deep curiosity to every clinical conversation, whether we’re exploring layered symptoms or building a sustainable wellness plan. I built Tessera because I believe medicine works best when it sees the whole picture — not just the diagnosis, but the person.
Outside the clinic, I love birdwatching, speculative fiction, music, and spending time in nature or with my chosen family. These things ground me. I believe your care should support what grounds you, too.
